This is a set consisting of a 377RW Crown cabinet scraper burnisher and a 460 3 piece set of Clifton scrapers. Both items are made in Sheffield England. Burnisher: The Crown burnisher had a beautifully turned genuine Rosewood handle, brass ferrule and highly polished high carbon steel rod. The Indian rosewood comes from managed forests.. Overall length is 11-1/2". A burnisher is an indispensable tool used to turn the thin burr on cabinet scrapers that makes them operate so effectively. Scrapers: Clifton #460 cabinet scrapers are an invaluable aid to woodworking in putting a really fine finish on wood. They can also be used for removing traces of paint, varnish or distress marks on wood. The Gooseneck scraper (3” x 5”) is used for awkward curves in moldings and the like, where part of the outside curve of the Gooseneck scraper will be found to fit the desired radius. The Convex/concave scraper (2” x 6”) can obviously be used at either end to fit hollows and rounds. It may also be used as a flat scraper along its parallel edge. The points at the concave end are ideal for scraping in narrow grooves. The Rectangular scraper (2-1/2” x 5”) is the standard item for flat surfaces, though (as will the Convex/concave) its corners may also be used as scraping points. The 2-1/2” x 5” is the standard size. All Clifton scrapers are .032" thick and are made of medium carbon steel with a hardness of 40/42 Rockwell C. This specification gives good edge retention while allowing the “spring” of “flex” in the blade which gives the user control of the tool. Clifton scrapers are made by the highly respected Clifton Tools Company of England, the maker of Clifton bench and shoulder planes.
