Handmade Birchbark Canoe

This canoe was made in Lancaster NH from locally obtained Birchbark, Eastern White Cedar, Ash wood and Spruce roots. This is the 61st canoe I have made, most of which have been birchbark. It measures 15' long, 36" wide and is 12" deep in the center. It has two seats made of wood and rawhide. If you are looking for a canoe to use in the water it is fine for smaller sized people. If you are a large person you should find somethin bigger. It was made with left over bark pieces from previous projects and hence, the bark has a lot of seams and is not of the best quality. It will need to be touched up occasionally to keep it from leaking. It would be a good canoe for putting on display in a hunting camp, ski lodge, ect. The seams are sealed with marine caulking rather than pine pitch. It weighs approximately 55lbs.
