    Description

M400 Adapter for Wild Leica M400 Makroskop for APS-C Digital Photography for Gemology and Mineralogy - M420 Version also Available!
I have used Wild Leica M400 and M420 systems for 25 years and updated many of these to easily mount modern digital cameras for high quality photography.   I offer an easy to install camera mount to fit the M420 to provide an optimal configuration for high quality photographic work using the most common APS-C format camera systems such as Nikon DX format DSLR's and other 1.5 or 1.6 factor ( or smaller sensor) reduced format cameras or DSLR's. The original ISO camera tube is replaced with extension tubes including an adjustable length tube to achieve par-focal performance with a variety of cameras using the T mount camera adapter. This configuration adds no additional optics to the M420, M400, or the camera system and this is the configuration that you will have after installing the adapter I am selling here.
If you have an M400 You will need to remove the top plate and remove the white camera tunnel from it.  You will then assemble the new adapter plate to the M400 top plate.  If the M400 still hgas its electric shutter above the beam splitter this should be removed.  Clean the beamsplitter if needed and re-assemble the M400 top plate to the body.  The new p[hototube screws into the black mounting plate and the camera mounts to the top of the tube using a customer supplied T- mount adapter ring for the camera to be used.  I can also supply the additional parts you need to modernize your M420 based on the same T APS-C camera tube.  Please see my other EBAY offerings for this item.
Note -  Although designed for APS-C sensor coverage you will find the frame coverage of this adapter will reach fairly close to full frame 24x36mm coverage and one may add a 1.4X teleconverter between the tube and camera to achieve greater coverage and magnification for larger sensor areas.  For example I have found that an old but optically excellent ( and available at very low cost ) Nikon TC14B converter will cover beyond FULL FRAME 24 x 36 sensors using Nikon DSLR cameras and the image quality is excellent.  Different teleconverters may or may not work well so experimentation is required.   Many older teleconverters that do not couple to the modern electronics in today's lenses are available at bargain prices on the used market.   Please inquire if you have further questions regarding this adaptation although I do not offer any teleconverters for sale.
You are buying ONLY ONE ADAPTER like one shown in the photos. The white top plate from an M400 is one that you mu8st re-use from youor M400.  A NEX-7 Sony camera is also shown for reference only so you understand how your existing M400 will be configured for photography after the adapter is installed. The resulting M400 configuration permits mounting a wide variety of camera systems on the superb head and WILD objective to achieve high quality digital imaging in the difficult macrophotographic range of 1X to 50x.
I custom assemble these adapters from a selection of high quality optical and telescope T- and/or M42 threaded adapters including very high quality Pentax or Baader adjustable length helical focus rings to allow easy adjustment for par-focality of the camera with the M420 observation tubes. Due to the difficulty in finding quality components each tube may use slightly different components but the result is the same quality product and I have shown a selection of different adapters that you may receive depending on availability.
