Description
Red Dot Potato Chips was founded in Madison Wisconsin in 1938. Their mascot was an actual clown called "Ta-to" who promoted the chips at schools, grocery stores, public events, etc. An artistic version of Ta-to's face was on the Red Dot potato chip tins and bags and in their advertising. By 1961, Red Dot was the leading producer of snack foods in the Midwest and continued in business under various ownership until 1973.This vintage paper mask with eye holes is about 10-1/2 inches tall and 8 inches wide. With a colorful Ta-to the Clown face, it was probably a give-away - possibly at promotional events and/or in the packages - in the 1940-50s. The mask was manufactured in the United States and is an original piece from the era. It is a unique and charming piece of history that would be a great addition to a collection - or to display on its own.
The mask is in good condition and the detailed colors are still vibrant. There are no tears or writing on the mask but there is some discoloration to the paper as shown in the photos. The tape that can be seen in the upper left-hand corner of the photos is on the outside of the hard-pack not on the mask.
The mask will be shipped USPS in the protective hard-pack as shown in the photos.
