Vintage 1930s Cavitt Shaw W. S. George Strawberry Platter Shortcake 11 1/4” 190A

Description

A beautiful strawberry platter with the name Shortcake stamped in red letters on the back. Made by W.S. George Pottery Co. of East Palestine, Ohio in the 1930’s. Formerly the Sebring Bro’s. Pottery, George purchased it in 1904 and ran it until it closed due to bankruptcy in 1955. Cavitt and Shaw were family names. See makers mark on bottom.
This platter is 9 1/4” X 11 1/4”. It is a creamy ivory color, has red strawberries with shadows scattered across the surface. There is a thin red band around the outside edge of the platter. This red band does have some wear from use and perhaps being stacked. The bottom of the platter has a few utensil marks from use. There are no chips or cracks but there is a mold mark on the back center and 3 small mold marks on the back rim.
